Open Screen started in 2021 at Public Functionary as a space between an idea and a film festival. Artists created Open Screen as an opportunity to share works in progress, get honest and affirming feedback and connect with each other in a casual community setting. 

This short block features a range of local works from experimental shorts, youth made films, a visual poem and a trailer for an upcoming local project.

Ryan Stopera is an award winning writer, director, photographer, producer and educator based in Minneapolis.  A self taught artist, Ryan began his career working with individuals experiencing homelessness, children and families, and foster care youth, as well as in program development and affordable housing development. He began documenting protests after the housing crisis in 2008. Being in community, creating connections, and sharing stories with each other is what drives Ryan's work.
